Needless to say...grease fires are dangerous. And apparently my chicken marinade is really oily. My boyfriend is usually on top of keeping the house, the cars, and the grill in top-notch cleanliness. Yes, I married a mutant. Love you baby! But we had forgotten about the time we made 70 lbs of grilled poultry for the ladies at our church. So it was a complete surprise when we were firing up the grill to find that it got hotter than a latin dance competition. Muy Caliente! Before we knew it, smoke was pouring out the back of the grill. And even though the grill was away from the house, our siding got the brunt of the Kenmore's temper tantrum...and was loaded down with grease & soot. But no matter how much we scrubbed, the white paint still looked dingy. So I have been dreaming of a new paint job.
The picture above is the original...pre-photoshop version. Kinda like American Idol's Bikini Girl during Hollywood week. And then the next ones are when she returns
So which one do you like better? Is the blue-gray too dark? Is the brown too dirty looking? Is the green like a third nipple and just weird? Or do you think that maybe we should just stick to white?
Repainting our house isn't in the hopper right now - but a girl can dream, right? I mean, the Bikini Girl probably had Pussycat Doll dreams about growing up. Well world, exterior paint color is my version of tah-tahs. (boys everywhere are disoriented and confused right now, huh?)
I like your original white, but if I had to choose from the 3, I'd say #1.
ReplyDeleteLove the white, personally!
ReplyDeleteLove your smooches to God comment!
ReplyDeleteI like #1.
I guess I'm in the minority... I was going to say that I think the black shutters and trim pop so much more with the colors... I love the brown.
ReplyDeleteI like #2 also! The gray is a little depressing and the green looks too "Golden Girls". JMO tho!
ReplyDeleteAhh I love you!! Bikini Girl definitely made my night with her horrific singing and terrible attitude! Alright.. back to the original topic.. the white is my favorite by far! Pleeasse don't change it!!
ReplyDeleteI am also a #2 fan.
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love the brown the best. What can I say? You should see my closet...
ReplyDeleteKeep the white! But, if you must change it, I like #1.
ReplyDeleteI like the white, but if you must paint it i would go with #1.
ReplyDeletemaybe the other 2 would look better with different shutter colors?
#2. New reader here....I have been enjoying your blog (found through the Youngsters), I love your humorous writing sytle!

ReplyDelete#1! We are painting a wall in our bedroom the same color - slate grey/blue is so hot right now! I'm a new reader too, and honestly I was attracted to your site b/c my last name is Bower- but I love it the blog - whatever works!
ReplyDeleteI like #2~
ReplyDeleteI like the white, but out of the colors, I choose #1. I agree with Jo, slate is so hott right now! (yes, with two t's)
ReplyDeleteI do LOVE the original white, but I would have to go with number 1!
ReplyDeletehmmmm I like white. you could always paint the front door a fab color. and maybe the pediment white, too. that might tide you over until a full-on paint job is feasible.
ReplyDeletewhat was up with bikini girl??? I tried not to judge, but wow, she was irritating. and I'm afraid we've not seen the last of her, either.
OH, and glad you didn't burn the place down! husband did the same thing in college, but it totally warped the siding. so maybe a little soot isn't so bad!
ReplyDelete#2. There's something about the gray that's more blue and makes me think of early 90s house colors. But I do love a gray house, it's just hard to find the right gray...
ReplyDelete1 or 3
ReplyDelete3 is a great bold statement of a color.
1 is safer but elegant.
Well I am a lazy decorator so I am all for a patch paint job when the original looks as nice as your adorable white house. BUT, I have to say I REALLY like #2! I have brick house that is a funny pale yellowy yuck, so I have been dreaming ... but like I said, I am a lazy decorator....
ReplyDeleteI actually love the third choice - almost moved into a house very similar to yours in style and that gorgeous green; then again, I do love color and I love green :-) Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI like the green... but then I also have a third nipple. ;)
ReplyDeleteoption 2 if you must.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely #2. Love your blog.
ReplyDelete#2 would be my #1. #3 would be my #2. If that makes sense.
ReplyDeleteHey Jo Ann - BOWER POWER! AHHH!
ReplyDeleteHi Ros - can we be BFF? Because I would love to be able to say that I know three people with extra nips. There are some things money can't buy :)
To be honest, I am surprised that there has been such a response in favor of the white. For some reason I thought everyone would think it was blah. hmm...interesting.
XO - Katie
The white is gorgeous, but then so is the blue/gray. I think that color really pops against the trees and looks so elegant.
ReplyDeleteI really like the white... otherwise, #1 would be my pick. But maybe it needs to be more grey than blue???
ReplyDeleteMe likey the gray (#2), me lovey the white. Your house reminds me of George Banks, you know, from "Father of the Bride", which is why I prefer the white.
ReplyDeleteAlso, how funny was the look on BG's face when Kara mocked her? Priceless.
Did your BBQ live to grill another day, or is it burnt toast?
LOL! Wait till I tell you about the fourth one! They run in our family. ;)
ReplyDeleteAs your BFF will you share the secret to finding the outrageous deals you find at the PB Outlet? Ours is pretty lame compared to yours. :(
#1
ReplyDeleteI like the brown. You're too funny, by the way.
ReplyDeleteThe white is lovely, but I also like the blue/grey and the brown. Not a huge fan of the green color.
ReplyDeleteBikini Girl was the best part of the American Idol final - her face was priceless when Kara came out singing. Adam should have won though!
for me, hands down my fave is #1.
ReplyDeleteHard to improve upon classic white with black shutters. (Play with door colors & landscaping if you like.) If the itch to change the color is overwhelming, then #1. So glad you asked for input. You'll thank us. You're welcome in advance.
ReplyDeleteWhen I need a good laugh, cry or something in between, your blog is the place I come :-) I love hte brown!
ReplyDeleteI'd vote #2, definitely!!
ReplyDeleteKeep it white. We live in that weird green house that's number 3, only our house is a funky 60s split level. But it is electric green - no lie. And we are painting it this summer (maybe a sage green if I can find one). The brown looks too much like poop. I say change the shutters and door color.
ReplyDelete#1 for sure!
ReplyDeleteI think I like the white the best too!
ReplyDelete#1! It looks amazing!
ReplyDeleteI vote either grey (but a lighter version) or a light tan ... with a red door for fun. But then, I'm obsessed with red doors and can't have one myself because ours is uPVC.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the commenters the white is classic, but the green is great!
ReplyDeleteSmooches to God is right, for saving you and your love nest!
No. 2 fo sho.
ReplyDeleteI like #1
ReplyDeletethe white looks more classic....maybe put a pop of color on the front door only if you are bored with white/black scheme???
ReplyDeleteSave yourself some cash and stick with the white! I love it.
ReplyDeletei definitely think there's something to be said about black and white but i love #2. it's modern and elegant.
ReplyDeletelove the blog!
I say go #2 but paint the door pediment white and your front door a fun green color (like Benjamin Moore's Agave or Great Barrington Green)!
ReplyDeleteI agree that I am all for the white... but if you must change it, my vote is #1
ReplyDelete#2...no contest!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE #2!!
ReplyDeleteI'm a new reader a well.. but i love #1 and #3. What color will your flowers grow up to be? Im also a fan of the idea of having the white like it is now or a creamier white with a super bold door/window shudders... PS your hilarious. i love potty humor.
ReplyDeleteI love love love #2!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhite or Brown!!!
ReplyDeleteEither way ~ your house has such cute curb appeal!!!

ReplyDeleteI like #1, but maybe a little lighter.
ReplyDeleteAI Finale- I loved that Kara was mocking BG and her abs were awesome. I couldn't believe she did that, but it was great and totally unexpected.
Love the blue!
ReplyDeleteAs much as I love green- number 1 is my favorite. Dream away!
ReplyDeleteI like #1 also but I would paint the pediment and door trim white and the door red. White is always good but it shows, mildew and other stains and must be done more often.
ReplyDeleteOhhh, something similar happened to our siding too! But luckily, Chad was able to scrub is clean.
ReplyDeleteI choose #1 - I love that gray!!
LOVE #1...love it!
ReplyDeleteWow. Sorry to hear about the "fire."
ReplyDeleteI love all three of the new colors... but, I would go with the green or the brown!
White!
ReplyDeleteI also really like the current white, but out of your new options I really like #1.
ReplyDelete#2....depth, color, class
ReplyDeleteI love the first one, blue/gray. It looks great.
ReplyDeleteWhat a bummer about the fire...
I like #1 - it's a great blue gray that will look great with the black shutters.
ReplyDeletei definitely like the white the best. but here's an idea...what if you painted the whole house black and painted your shutters and pediment around the front door white? then you could have an awesome red front door or something. don't ask me what it would do to your a/c bill, but it would look great...but then again, i'm a sucker for black houses :)
ReplyDeleteI like #2. It looks alot like what we did last year, we replaced our white siding with the taupey color.
ReplyDeleteHey there,
ReplyDeleteThe white is classic, however I think the slate blue really accents the architectural details of the house. The shutters and window grills are defined and the blue some how makes the black seem even more crisp than when it is against the white. The brown does look a bit dingy and the green seems dated. Sorry about the small fire, but it's great to be able to find an up side :)
Take care,
Lisa
I like the brown.
ReplyDelete#1
ReplyDeleteLoves it!
my vote goes for number 1... plus a red door! if house paint is your version of tah-tahs a red door is like a cute bra, or swinging nip tassles :)... right? ... weird...?
ReplyDeleteI'm loving #2! It makes your shutters really pop and your house look so regal.
ReplyDeleteI really like #3, though #1 is a very close second. Especially if you painted the door a different color! Don't much care for #2 at all. But the green and the slate blue are lovely. LOVE adding some color to your home! But do take a walk on your street and look at the other houses around when you choose. Which color makes your house the prettiest on the block? :)
ReplyDeleteI like them all, but I like the white the best.
ReplyDeleteI love #1. I really like the grey/blue, black, and white combination. The only thing I would probably do differently is paint the trim around the front door white instead of black. Good luck with your new endeavor!
ReplyDeleteLauren
I love number #2, but I'm a big fan of that color. Its just classic, you could also do it with a red door to spice it up!
ReplyDeleteI like the white also. It just looks clean and stands out nice. But 2 would be my choice.
ReplyDeleteI think that the white is best, but if you HAD to change it then I go with No.2... thats right...
ReplyDeleteI would go with number two if you are set on changing it, but I would lighten it up a bit!
ReplyDeleteI was noticing that there aren't enough white houses around these days, so I say a fresh coat of soft white (so very colonial cottage-y).
ReplyDeleteOtherwise, I'm digging the taupey brown! And no it does not look like poo.
Love #2, its sleek and sophisticated, but has a timeless appeal (ie sellability if you ever must part with your darling house!)
ReplyDeleteLove the white and also diggin' the green. And hey... I like thrid nipples!!!
ReplyDeleteI like the white, but I think the look would benefit from adding some variety. So maybe a different color door than the shutters or vice versa. Though I personally like black shutters. Or maybe make the frame around the door a different color, more subtle since the shape makes it stand out already.
ReplyDeleteOf the colors, I like the green, but still think the same about varying the door color from the window color.
Maybe put a fun outdoor thermometer or clock over the spot...
