The Look for Less

Did you ever watch that show called "The Look for Less"? I always liked that show. For those of you that never saw it the premise was "here is a fancy (aka expensive) look that I love - now my personal shoppers will buy items in my budget and I get the look...for less." And for those of you that never tuned in around 2002-2003, the View's Elisabeth Hasselbeck was the host. Yup. That was when she was all post-Survivor skinny, with no kids, and she didn't know Rosie O'Donnell from Roseanne Barr. My how times have changed...not the skinny part. Hasselbeck still has a six pack dang her.

So out of my love for cheap quality goods, I decided to host a Bower Power version of "The Look for Less" for the first time. It was for fun. It was a challenge of my internet surfing skills. So now here is the phat look I was looking to copy.

Pottery Barn

Queen Georgetown Tufted Headboard $799 + $75 surcharge
Morgan 400tc Duvet cover and shams $199 + $39 + $39 + $39
Olivia Silk Quilt and shams $299 + $49 +$49 + $49
Pleated Button Bed Skirt $99
Parker Bedside Table $449
Bradley Table Lamp $149
Thomas Print Drape $119 +$119
Marcel Ottoman $449

TOTAL = $3020

and the look for less....

El Cheapo

1. Greenwich Tufted Headboard $199.99
2. Hotel Collection 3 pc Down Comforter set $99.99
3. Fieldcrest Luxury Coverlet Set $99.99
4. Solid Color pleated bedskirt $17.99
5. Georgetown Nightstand $209.99
6. Canopy Brushed Steel table lamp $39.88
7. Varen Curtain 2 pack $19.99
8. Hartford Storage Ottoman $95.99

TOTAL = $783.81

So there you have it - a Pottery Barn inspired bedroom for a fraction of the price. It's like ordering a double cheeseburger and they bring out Flo's Filet. And who doesn't like Flo?! I mean, as long as it ain't Aunt Flo - I am all for it :)

So what do you think? Do you think that this is something that you would like to see more of? Like a regular little Look for Less feature here at BP? Or could you do without? Maybe we could fancify this puppy and you guys could send in your fav 'looks' and I could rummage up the 'less' parts. hmm? opinions please...and if we disagree, I promise that we won't fight like cats and dogs (err...elisabeth's and rosie's).

Great job! I think you nailed it! I'm all about a quality look for less money, so I would enjoy seeing this kind of analysis of rooms. BTW, I loved that show when Elisabeth hosted!

I remember "The Look For Less." I actually liked Elisabeth then. But that's when she was a Filarski and not a Hasselback. Sigh, how times have changed. Anyway, on to your idea. Love it love it love it! It's so much fun to see those 'luxe for less' or 'splurge and save' columns in magazines. They always catch my eye, just like this post did. I'd love to see more of the same here. Cheers!

I think that it's a great idea! Pottery Barn stuff is amazing, but so true that we can achieve the same "look for less" ... and it totally applies to every room in our homes. Keep it up!

I loved that show and love your entry about it even more because you have direct links to everything you found! I think it would be a great addition to your blog. I would love to try this, but I can imagine it takes a very long time.

I think this sounds like a great idea- keep doing it! :) Would you be interested in doing outfits too, just like the show (which I totally watched)? Because I'd like to see that too, as well as interior designs. Great job!

Love it, and you make the show sound fabulous. I was attending keg parties in 2002, so it was pre-HGTV days for me. I would love a feature that enlightens me on what I missed while killing braincells doing keg stands.

And for the Sesame Chicken - try red or white wine in place maybe? Let me know how it turns out!
