Clicker Box

Ever since I saw the lovely white bamboo box at Target's Home Design event, I knew that the time would come where it would make it's way from my wish list to my coffee table. I spent many moons dreaming how I would incorporate the beautiful storage piece into my home.

Then an epiphany happened. As I was watching Heroes, a truckload of migraine decided to park in my head. Immediately the all-of-a-sudden-super-intense-this-season-close-mouthed-talking Claire Bennett (of "save the cheerleader, save the world" notoriety) became ridiculously brain piercing. I reached for the controller and pressed the mute. Nothing happened. Then across the room I spotted another controller, again no volume difference. At that moment, I could have lunged into the television, superman style and strangled her to death. Don't worry. She'll heal. Third clicker was a charm. That's when I knew exactly what must be done.

Before our flippers were strewn about. At any moment they could be found in random places. or be completely lost. And they didn't exactly fit into my home decor style. I figured the best way to use my soon-to-be-mine-o-mine bamboo box was to make it a controller controller. A container for our clickers. A fence for our flippers. A region for our remotes.

Out went our wooden elephant and in came the bamboo box. Secured at Target for 50% off this wood-like wonder now acts as an enclosure for our corralled clickers...and my heart. Plus I love how the white color is complementary to the white-ish coffee table tray & books combo that lives on the upper level. And since bamboo is a renewable resource (a fast growing grass to be exact) I feel that I am doing my part for the environment. All you tree huggers should applaud me. Go ahead. Clap away.

Plus it makes finding the remotes easier than ever. Combine that with the fact that Jeremy never has to move his patootie from the couch to reach the controller...and I do believe I got myself a winner. One hundred points - me. Two thousand points - Target.

As you can see, this beauty is the perfect size for the remotes and has room to spare. Next up...trying to cram the PS3 controllers in there :) Just kidding Jeremy - I would never do that.

If you wanna get your own albino box - click here - and it's your lucky day - 50% off online for a grand total of 15 smackers! And they have a version in natural and a smaller size for all you universal-remoters.

But before you run off with your Visa flappin' in the wind...tell me about your clicker situation. Do you lose the little sucker? Do you even know what controller goes to what controllee? Do you know what a flipper is? And if so, where do you keep your little boob tube remote? Most importantly...if you had a clicker for life...what would you pause or mute or fast forward? Go ahead...let's get all Adam Sandler up in here.

I am always telling Tom that I wish I had the remote from Click. I'm so ready for him to be done with law school.

As for actual clickers, Tom has a really awesome universal remote that at first I thought was a waste of money. Now I can't live without it. It lives on it's charger right next to Tom's behemoth of a television.

I'd fast forward to my debt being paid off! And we have four remotes and the main one always gets lost, or the little guys hides them under the entertainment center.

We have the mother of all remote situations. The comcast clicker is the only way we can turn the volume down. The TV clicker is the only way we can turn the volume up. And the TV only turns on if we click the DVD player on. I think we misprogrammed somewhere...typical. They're all corralled on the bottom shelf of our side table.

I'm gonna have to skip the remote for life based on our inability to program our TV remotes correctly...who knows what we'd short circuit.

We have 2 remote controls and a place to put them and they are hardly ever lost, honestly. But. . . I don't really like them out for everyone to see. Love the box, love Target.

Why does she always snarl with her mouth closed? Why? Her breathy and insistent guttural tone is KILLING ME. So glad I'm not the only one who noticed. John looks at me like I'm crazy when I imitate her (another favorite: singing thru my nose like Rihanna... "a murderahhhh") but I'm glad to know that you're also on to Claire's regularly-occurring closed mouth snarl.

In other news I love that box. In fact I debated gettin' one for our bathroom's open linen closet to hold toothbrushes and toothpaste and floss. So many uses! But I especially love it for remotes.

One last tangent. Remember Ramone Salizar from an old season of 24? In our house we call the remote "Remote Salizar." Terrible, I know. But quite entertaining.

xo,
Sherry

Our main tv has three remotes and we have a similar storage solution at our place: a beautiful woven leather box on the shelf below our coffee table! In addition the remotes, we also keep random things commonly used while relaxing on the couch: hand cream, hair clip, letter opener, candle snuffer and oddly enough, the cats' nail clippers lol.

Our clickers tend to wonder away from time to time as well. Lately, I've been trying to get the hubs to leave the clickers on one particular shelf. It is a new work in progress, but hopefully sometime soon he'll figure it out.

Great idea you had! A + + + +

We have 4 remotes that stand up vertically in a dark brown woven basket. Works great for us!

I would love to pause life as it is right now. I love the stage both of my kids are in. Life fits just right - right now. I know I complain about them (alot sometimes) but I am going to miss this when it is gone.

I love rooms decorated with artichoke hearts! Where did you find yours? Please don't say Hobby Lobby because the closest one to me is hours away! *tear*

Hi Lovely Little Nest,

My fakey little artichokes were curtesy of Pier 1. They were on sale about a month ago for $1 a piece which I thought was a pretty decent price. Don't ya just love vegetables that you don't actually have to eat?!?

XO - Katie

Ha ha that was quite funny... it seems that we all have our own funny and irritating remote stories....And what you've done looks great.

I'll answer the easy question because it's too early in the morning for the deeper one: our Wii remotes live in the charger, our TV and DVD remotes go into a lined basket on my coffee table and the Xbox controllers and Wii nunchucks go into a drawer.

So simple. So perfect. Never have clickers looked so, well, good!

Oy...Four teens, their friends...yes we lose clickers. Yes we need an albino box. Maybe two. Yep.

LOL @ "albino"! Fab find. So simple, so classic.

We mostly just use our comcast remote, but we have 4 total, which we chuck into our storage ottomans when not in use. yet Mr. FC still asks me if I've seen the remote. Once it was in his hand...........

You are a genius! It's so CUTE! But I'm just LOLing at what my silly husband would say if I did that. Do you know he STILL complains when I move his shoes from the middle of the floor to the shoe box in the front hall? The nerve!! lol.
