Vote for a Coat

I need a new coat. All my others are either too light weight or I got in college (which usually means that they are one to three sizes too small). I never gained the freshman fifteen...I lost weight when I went away to school. The food just couldn't compete with mom's...plus there were other funner things to do - like follow cute boys around and hope they spit out their gum so I could peel it off the asphalt sidewalk and stick it in my collection...it was alphabetized...and in chronological order...and sorted by flavor...go ahead, ask me how I found out what was peppermint :)

Back to the coat issue - the cold weather finally hit Georgia...which is nice because now the winter actually feels like winter (minus snow or anything remotely romantic like that). And then my friend Vicky - most people know her as Victoria - sent me a great code to knock an additional 50% off my coat purchase. Gotta love Vicky!

So now I need your help - vote for one of the following to let me know which coat I should get. Oh and fyi - I need to know what color too!!! I don't have a black one - so keep that in mind.

Originally $150 - on sale for $100 (only $50 after discount)

Originally $140 - on sale for $90 (only $45 after discount)

Option #3 - comes in black, winter white & lipstick red
Originally $170 - on sale for $80 (only $40 after discount)
My current coat conundrum has certain requirements to be fullfilled...the coat must meet the following standards:
  • Single-breasted. Double breasted makes me look like a linebacker for the GreenBay Packers.
  • Slit pockets. Bulky, obvious or square pockets located directly on my pelvic region make me look really hippy and not that flashing-peace-signs-and-tie-dye-my-bell-bottoms-kinda hippy.
  • No belts. I really don't have much of a waist...it's like my ribs end and my hip bones are half an inch below them...doesn't leave a whole lotta room for a slim midsection. Belts are just wasted on me...they don't make me look like I have a waist...they just add additional fabric and make me look wider in the midsection region. yikes.
So there is my coat info. And there are a ton of outerwear available at Vicky's, ladies - so if you are in need, check it out today...but vote first...nobody wants me to get all CRAZY up in here :)

Puppy Love

Husbands are like dogs. If you wanna train them to sit, you gotta have treats. Doggie wanna Beggin Strip?...then stay clear of sniffin my crotch. Rewards are crucial to good behavior. Same applies to wives and children. Just watch the Nanny - she'll confirm it :)

This Christmas my Jeremy really deserved a great reward for all his good behavior throughout the year. Santa was watching. Santa saw. Santa had the perfect treat. One that had my boyfriend drooling.

Here was the setup before.
See what the fat man brought my baby?
Yes, the silver beast that was our form of entertainment was replaced with a black beauty. Jeremy's tail was waggin with delight. And because we are both TV junkies, it had me salivating all over myself as well.

Check out the high-def photos:
Nice, right? And I couldn't even disagree with Saint Nick about the cost because of the great deal that we scored. These 52 inches of pleasure usually runs about $3200. But my hubbie did some research...and when I say some, I mean several hundred hours.
Here is the story. Jeremy learned that the Samsung 650 series was going to be on sale at our local Circuit City from my little bro. That was Wednesday & he was primed to go pick up the new boob tube any moment. But something in his heart told him to wait. I believe it was the Electronic Luxury Fairy (ELF). And boy am I glad that little ELF spoke when it did. Because Saturday morning came. And with it brought a huge discount...even bigger than before! It was now or never because Saturday was the last day that our CC was going to open their doors. sniff. sniff. So my boyfriend stood in line the Saturday before Christmas to pick up his high-tech device. We were able to get the 850 series (vs. 650 series) for only $1400. That is an awesome deal. Like learning-you-can-fly awesome!
And because this baby has got to last us for, oh, the next twenty years, I won't resent Chris Kringle for overspending everytime I watch Project Runway. Or Lost. Or The Office. Or HGTV. Or Greys. Or The Amazing Race. Or the Food Network. Or John & Kate plus 8. Or Gossip Girl (the shame!). Do I need to go on? Because I can...for about an hour. I told you we were TV junkies :)

I am a spoiled brat

This Christmas was unreal. You guys know how much I like presents. Pretty wrappings topped with a sparkly bow. A gift bag stuffed to the gills with white tissue paper. A brown paper package tied up with string (anyone wanna break into song at a sleepover?!)

The point as I have said so many times before is this: I feel so loved when I get a gift. This holiday I felt the love. I felt mucho love. like love that Bono feels. he gets screaming fans, I got tons of kick-A gifts. It was as close as I have ever gotten to adoration. I felt like a spoiled rotton princess. I almost felt bratty just being on the receiving end...but then I remembered how fabulous all my gifts were and I got over it :) In fact...let's just be honest...I loved every gosh darn second and I love reminscing here about my drool-worthy worldly goods.

This may sound cruel, seeing how we are in a recession and all...and believe me, I am not trying to rub anything in anyone's face. So, here is the disclaimer...I know you will hate me after you read this post - so turn away. Close this post. If you continue - you will have feelings of disappointment toward your loved ones. Santa will be the arch nemesis for years to come. And unfortunately, Bower Power will be host to your ridiculously spoiled blog frenemy...whom you are insanely jealous of. It is a burden I must carry :)

***WARNING: KATIE's CHRISTMAS GIFTS CAN INDUCE LABOR PREMATURELY***

My Grandparents and parents gave us moolah...lots of moolah. I spent every last penny. I have a job so that I can save money...Christmas is so we can help spur the economy. That is the real reason for the season, right? Just kiddin...love you Jesus!

Anyhoo, went to Pottery Barn/WS home outlet, Goodwill, and TJMaxx (how's that for a combo!) and got some fantastic new stuff for the house.

I guess my grandparents technically bought me this set of 6 squiggly glass cups. Jeremy breaks glasses like Jews at weddings. It's routine for me to get new ones. Aren't they fab? And my favorite part is that when you put drinks in them, the liquids look colder cause of the squigglies. Dontcha think?
4 graphic & green salad plates and a wooden soy candle...both PB. Bragging: plates cost less than $2 a piece :) Thanks Mummum & Pappap!
Mercury glass votives in silver & green, snowflake placecard holders - 75% off at PB. Tiny ornament placecard holders - 50% off at Hobby Lobby. Gray glass trees - 90% off original price at TJ to the Maxx. Now I am ready for next year...almost.
I also scored this expensive looking down-filled brown & white lumbar pillow at the Maxx for full price. Go ahead and gasp. I know. I don't usually do that. But seeing as how full price was only $14.99 - I thought it would be alright. Please forgive me.
The white PB soup tureen was only $20. And my dear mummy dearest bought Jeremy and I those lovely white-handled Cutco knives. I am a little bit scared of them seeing how I manage to cut myself on our current set of dull-as-a-plastic-spoon knives. They could definitely hinder my blogging speed. And I got the plate stand at Goodwill. It was only $4. I think I might spraypaint the sucker either silver or dark bronze...whatta ya think?
The 6 yellow placemats ($1.24 each) and the giant round vase ($12) are PB - Thanks be to the Grandparents! and the little bud vases and the artichokes are from Pier 1 - curtesy of the my in-laws very generous gift card :) The square vase was Goodwill - so mom you get a point for this one.
Pier 1 also had these cute little shell style ramikins and sauce dishes. And boy do they look saucy stacked on one another in a setting - I may have to host a sushi night so that I can put them in action. And that little white bud vase ($1) was too cute to not put in my cart. Thanks again Dad & Vicki....you have great taste!
Four red salad plates, two diffusers, and some woven accent balls complete my gift card action. The white bowl is huge and will be perfect for a tossed caesar salad. It was only $10 at PB.
My generous hubby got me the Victoria Secret sampler - and I am amped about trying out all the different scents...although not all at the same time...that would be about as sexy as a skunk. The underarmour headbands and chapsticks are stocking stuffers from my in-laws (I haven't had a stocking in a while and digging out the goodies was extra fun this year). My brother in law got me the mint chocolate chip bath smell-goods...the back of the bottle read: smells good enough to eat. please don't.
He also got me this silverplated tray from Ikea and matching coasters. I can't wait to serve glasses of bubbly on it or stack bowls and fruit on it with a pitcher of OJ for a super-casual breakfast.
Jeremy also bought me a little something to keep me sexy on the inside :) I asked for a white one with my name (and I prefer New King James Version) so I think he is going to keep this one as a good alternative to his big fattie bible. I really like the size and the extra reference material in the back...so it isn't that far off. Our friends own a Christian bookstore so now that my boyfriend knows the parameters of what I hope to be my forever-bible (the one I will live by and get buried with) hopefully it will be here by my birthday. Until then my coverless good book will have to keep me going :)
And no Christmas is complete without gadgets. My dad got me the 500GB external hard drive...yeah I didn't know that they made things that huge. That's what she said. And my brother & sister in law got me a remote control for my camera (it's awesome!). My sister totally scored with getting me and my man the first three seasons of The Office...and yes, it came with the stipulation that we must let her borrow it without hesitation.
Jeremy got me the Jack Johnson CD that I wanted...you go baby. And he got me a blue-ray movie and a lens cleaning kit and a lens filter. He definitely hit a high note by snagging Photoshop 7 and wrapping that sucka up for me. It will probably be a while till anyone sees it in action...but let me tell ya, I am pumped!
And lastly he got me a navigational system. It isn't the most unusual thing for me to call him to see if he could mapquest a way out of the ghetto. And tricky tricky got outta bed on Black Friday (unbeknownst to moi) to score the life-saver at a great price. He spoils me.
And Christmas wouldn't be christmas without some apparel. I got some uber-comfy socks from my in-laws...boy do my feet love them. And I got some sweet exercise gear - all due to my parents generousity. Hopefully - in the next few months I can say that my mom & dad got me a littler bootie for the holidays. hopefully.

So there you have it. My blissfully satisfied self - all because of my loving family and their thick wallets. All I can say is that I am undeservedly spoiled rotten. and to whom much is given, much is expected. That's how it goes, right? I guess I better get crackin on that :)

And because I am nosy and would love to know what you got, I shared the scoop on my spoils first. But now you have to promise me to tell me what you got and what your most favoritey present was this year. Heck, my birthday is coming up & a girl has got to plan ahead :)

Sales and Specials 10.10.08

The more I talk the less shopping you get to do, so let's get down to business. These are the sales, steals, and specials I found this week for your internet shopping pleasure.

Cute cute cute. Can you please have a garden party with tons of these strung up in the tree branches and invite me? Cause that would be hot - and not just temperature hot :) These would look amazing on a buffet table as well during your next holiday party to add some glimmer and glam. And at this price, you can afford some extra cuteness.
This chair is sizzling hot and at a smokin' price. Not only would it be earth friendly (no dead animal hide here!) but it is easy to look at and your boytoy will be sure to love it. Oh and here's a tip - type in Hudson in Target's search bar - there is soooo much stuff on sale this weekend!
This price is for not one, not two, but THREE boxes. What a way to add bling when you give your new sister-in-law a gift card or throw in a few fancy chocolates for that person you don't really wanna spend money on but is on the 'must-give-little-gift-to' list. Stock up now and keep em with your wrapping paper!
Tell me I am wrong, but doesn't this look like it came from the Pottery Barn Bedford collection? Not only fabulous but also functional...it can sort, stash and look pretty doing it. Kinda like you bloggers out there! And yes, I do have something on my nose :)
This says 17 pieces but in actuality you gotta multiply it by 2 - count those lids! Now figure out how many teachers, leaders, helpers, and friends you have to give a little somethin to come December, divide by 17, then multiply by how many cookies you wanna distribute for the holidays and WAHLA! You got yourself more cash in your pocket - and everyone you know is getting fatter than you! I should really take care of this economy crisis. The government just needs to stick to IKEA prices.
oooh texturally yummy...this was just too soft and subtle to pass on by.
Buy this for your mom, your college co-ed, yourself - but remember, you can't eat too many scrambled eggs...cholesterol is bad.
I was shocked to see this price - of course, you gotta see if your local store has the color you like but it would be worth the $4.25 a gallon of gas to get over there today!
10. Pumpkins - Crate & Barrel $4.95-$12.95
Me wantie. I love these. And I have no ceramic pumpkins to celebrate Halloween and into Thanksgiving. And these are perfect. Fill them with candies, cookies, or just your counter riff-raff and all is well.
I normally wouldn't post this because the price is just for the mat...but I went to Hobby Lobby yesterday and it costs twice this to have a custom school year mat cut. And this one comes labeled with each grade so I thought that for all you moms, soon to be moms, wanna be moms, or if you just wanna show off your elementary school pics, this is a good price.
Something struck me about this dish towel, can't say I love it but I will say that I am strangely attracted to it and I can't avert my eyes. It's like watching Paris Hilton.
Sleekness alert. This little nightstand is priced good but has the potential to be one of those items that you can grow with. Start it off in your nursery to stash some baskets and a bunch of wipes and it will end up in your man-den as a coffee table.
14. Book Boxes - Pottery Barn $12.99-$16.99
I thought I would broadcast these cause I have never heard of boxes before to hold books. It is a very unique idea for those of you that want a little more matchy-matchy in your life. Let's say your table top never matches your decor cause your book covers are quirky colors. It happens to the best of us. This would be the solution.
15. Cross-dyed Pillow Cover - West Elm $3.99 (in espresso or rust)
This pillow cover is for a smaller accent pillow but it will make a huge difference in your room. The colors available are perfect for a cheap fall update and the price is too good to be true. This is cheaper than IKEA pillow covers...and like I said, the economy sucks right now so every little bit can help, right?
So that's it folks. Oh and be sure to check out Crate & Barrels website for more great outlet prices - this sale is phenomenal. And if you have an Old Time Pottery near you, make sure to check them out too...such great deals!

Sales & Specials 10.01.08

Oh baby. Oh baby baby. This is a good one. Bower Power is just gonna make you shiver all over. Like a fat kid in a candy store. Like Britney to a wig shop. Like me to the dinnerware section at a clearance store. oooh baby this is gonna be good.

Introducing the Sales & Specials for this week - go ahead, take a peek...

Adorable. And when has anything been less than 15 smackers at WSHome?! I can answer that one...never. When I saw these seaside inspired bath accessories, I knew they must be shared. Get your beachy bum in and get these!

I die. This ottoman is totally chic. totally classy. And at $35 if I didn't have a room that it would look right in, I would redecorate. The cream and black damask ottoman would be so great in a bedroom, the living room, or any place you think you could just sit back, put your feet up and feel like a queen.

This pillow is the Sarah Palin of the pillow world. 1 - Pair it with anything and it will make it look better. 2 - It still maintains a bit of country charm with a modern twist. 3 - It's a little plain with its simplicity but a little punchy with its great color.

Ah the PB rug...my nautical charmer. It's so fresh and so clean (clean - sing it with me!). And I would just love to see someone buy this beauty, put it in their lakehouse, pair it with some splashes of red and sing Proud to be an American. That would make my day.

Come on -$7?! This is too good to be true. I spend $7 on the sandwich I eat for lunch.

Will someone give me a ocean side resort so I can decorate it? Please? Anybody? Well, I can totally see this lovely texturally glam girl on a patio overlooking the ocean...or pair it with some faux croc lampshades and add some bling to your living room. It will immediately scream lush. (and not because you drank the whole bottle of wine - although - if that were the case, it would provide a glamourous crash site!)

We have a dogwood tree out front and believe you me, you just want this candle holder and not the real thing. And fyi - I am convinced it is called the dogwood, because it poops crap all over our yard. It must come down. Someday. Trust me - get the candle holder, stay outta the dogwood section at your local nursery.

This neutral chair was so plain that I thought - heck anyone could use it. And it is a Walmart rollback so if you are in the market - this is a decent deal.

I don't know about quality in this FIVE piece suite but I figure it can't be worse than Rooms to go. And RTG doesn't have this kinda pricing. At least it looks sleek and contemporary! Put it in a guest room. Or go to the store and check it out - if it is built like Arnold, you just hurry back and let me know.

This is not for the birds - although you may think it is. This is for you. This will help you because people will come to your house and see it and think "wow! This gal loves wildlife in such a fashionable way! She has great taste and a sensitive soul." You just got popularity points. Don't be surprised if all your neighbors try to copy you. And all that great reputation cost you was 5 bones. Birds are optional.

Ok - and because the holidays are nearing and I am in the spirit of giving, I thought that I could let you have some BONUS sales and specials. They are cute. They are droolworthy. They are gonna make you tingle. Watch out. The Company Store brings em to ya and Bower Power sings their praises.

Honeycomb Quilt $67 in Queen

Zebra Tote Bag - $7

Oh and did I mention Monogramming is available for these totes!?! How cool would it be to load this sucker up with goodies for your bridesmaids gift or to bestow upon your fav college coed? Plus have it personalized and you will be honored with the title of "Coolest Gift Giver. Ever."

As always, if you find a great deal, let me know. And if you wanna see some sales or specials items from your favorite place to shop - just shout it out via comments. I love internet shopping especially when it doesn't cost me a dime and it could save you at least three dimes and maybe a nickel to boot.

Sales & Specials 09.26.08

You know the drill. Here is the deals that will make you scream louder than you did last night (when Jim and Pam got engaged!)...AHHHH!

1. Chainlink Vinyl Shower Curtain - Pottery Barn $13.99
Personally I dig the grey version but any color could add a splash of style into your bathroom. Perfect for a college abode or a kids suite to add flare combined with the easy to clean vinyl. I would even go so far to say that it would look quite dashing as a tablecloth for your next outdoor party.

2. Jamison Club Chair - Target $149
Microfiber is your friend. Why? Cause it is easy to clean and takes a beating and keeps on ticking. This tan version from Target is surprisingly similar to the Pottery Barn Spencer Armchair - but oh, $1150 cheaper....whatta deal, whatta deal.

3. PB Classic Stripe Pillow Covers - Pottery Barn $14.99 + free shipping
I am seriously considering getting a few of these in citrus for my living room just like Emily. I love the classic lines, the price, the nautical feel, the price, the free shipping...did I mention the price? And the great thing is that you can get the innerds for cheap at IKEA (for all you non-sewing types) and the overall price will be less than a pillow at Walmart.

4. Dane Pendant Lamp - Crate & Barrel $64.95
Brazilian sandalwood veneer shade is a throw back and a jump forward all in one. This natural forest-y pendent would bring the outdoors in placed in a modern cabin or a retro loft. It screams style and at 50% off, the only question is - why WOOD you not buy it?!?

5. Wire Balls - CB2 $3.95-$4.95
Handwoven goodness of IRON. Place them in a bowl on your coffee table, stack in a large vase, hang from the ceiling or use as side table flare. They look fantastic and individualistic - and the price is not gonna push your budget way outta whack.

6. Lollylane Modern Ceiling Light - Walmart $14
Sure it was designed to go with a childrens room - but imagine getting a few for over a dining room table, a playroom reading area, or even flanking your TV in your IKEA adorned home. The design is simple, whimsical and fun - interpret as you will. Are they little trees, mini dandelions or lollipops? Who knows and who cares! We just know they are charming.

7. Lemonade Carafe - World Market $4.98
Wedding tables would look a little country, a little refreshing, and a whole lotta fabulous with these lemonade carafes. Serve your next patio party, summer time picnic or parched guests from this green glass pitcher. It is sure to charm if paired with some of your canning jars turned glasses.

8. Sumersault Blooming Delight Rug - Walmart $18
The colors and the price are darling for a closet rug, a bath rug or a children's time out mat. Not only does this rug look fantastic on the floor but also in other areas of your home - case in point - use it to cover a bench top for a furry and fun cover. Or attach some loops to make a textiley wall hanging for the babies to stare and then later rub all over. oooh - fuzzy.

9. Shanghai Pitcher - Z Gallerie $14.89
Square etchings make this porcelain pitcher to die for. It looks beachy, Asian, high end and functional to boot. Makes me wanna serve lemonade on the back patio. And at 50% this would make a great hostess gift at the next holiday party - about the same price as a decent bottle of wine - and I promise she won't use just once!

10. Nobility Safari Bath Rugs - Dillards $19
Exotic flavor for your bathroom ahead. Too much and you'll think you are at the zoo but add one chic bath rug and all of a sudden you just turned your boring trip to the bathroom into a luxurious African safari. Granted they aren't on sale - but I thought they were too fabulous to not share.

11. Essential Home Faux leather Parsons Chair - Kmart $39.99
Kmart? Katie's Mart that is. Cause these chair designs are fantastic - even Restoration Hardware thinks so. And the price is even better. I drool over prices like this. And then I have to change shirts.

12. Christmas Morning Hemstich Table runner - Linen's N Things $7.49
It is never too soon to shop for Christmas and today is no exception. This runner would look darling down the middle of your next Holiday party buffet. The matching 4-ct. napkin set is also available at the same price for you matchy-matchies. And this pattern is simple enough to add a little homie-ness to any contemporary home.

13. Whole Home Solid Color Dinnerware Collection - Sears $7.75-17.99 for four packs
This price is ridiculous for stoneware that look like it should be adorning the likes of a Southern Living magazine cover. It is not only sturdy but stylish. This is the kinda dinnerware that glass front cabinets were made for. If you buy this and have a fiesta - can I come?

14. Scroll Bird Lampshade - Urban Outfitters $14.99
I know I posted two lampshade pendants but this one was so charming I could help it! Flocked bird pattern set against a white background can add interest in your next black and white room. And $9 off the original price helps too. It will really pop when paired with a spicy red wall or some hot pink pillows.

And for those of you that are new - welcome to Bower Power. Here lives the dollar saving, penny pinching, sales loving gal that would love for you to keep a bit more of your moolah while increasing the FAAHH-boulousness of your home. And if you come across any great internet sales or specials - post them in the comments to share with my other 8 readers.

Sales & Specials 09.19.09

It's shopping time! And Bower Power has the best deals to share with all nine of you...that's right...I counted. Nine of you, on 09.19.09. Will you pay full price if with the help of Bower Power? Nein. (that's no in German but it is pronounced like "nine" - get it?)

All cheesiness aside, I really found some great deals and hopefully you will be able to incorporate some of these into your own personal designs and save some cash too. Cause let's be honest - who doesn't like to save money?!?

1. Chesapeake Director's Chair Frame & Slipcover - Pottery Barn $28.98

This adorable director's chair is totally kid-friendly and fashionable. No more ugly beach chairs for my tween - especially at this price. The greatest part is that the slipcover can be thrown in the wash so it's good to go even after the little ones accidentally spill sauce at your next barbeque.

2. IGLOO Maxcold 40-qt Wheeled Cooler - Target $26

We need a cooler something fierce. And now is the perfect time to buy because Target has all their IGLOOs on sale. Now that it's football season you can tote your 56 nice and frosty cans of brew to your next tailgate party and come summer - you will be ready to hit the beach with coolness on wheels.

3. Label Hardware - Pottery Barn $3 ($20 for set of 6)

What a creative way to personalize your kitchen, office, or laundry room! Attach these bin pulls to drawers in a play room so that the little ones can identify wooden boxes for easy clean up. I think they would be devine for spicing up an old filing cabinet or built-ins storing your thousands of DVDs.

4. Sater 2.5 seat split leather sofa - IKEA $299

One of the best deals ever found is this great looking sofa. Just trendy enough for the young but clean lines make it a lasting piece in your home. I love the high legs with a hardwood floor and some super plush pillows. And these days - a 2.5 seater means that it will fit two normal size people just fine - that or six Renee Zellwegers and an Angelina - heck throw in two Angelinas.

5. Walnut Finish lingerie chest, 4-drawer chest or nightstand - Kmart $30

The prices speaks for itself. FYI - these are only available at this price through tomorrow!

6. Midtown Dining Chairs set of 2 in Maple Finish - Walmart $69.88

Sleekness gets a rollback at Walmart. These are actually cheaper than their cousins at IKEA...and we all know how hard it is to be cheaper than the big blue Scandinavians. I think these would look great gathered around a glass table with punchy blue accents.

7. Kassett DVD box with lid in white - IKEA $3.99 for two

These lovely boxes are my favorite. And you can use them as storage for just about anything. No, they won't hold bricks or anything ridiculously heavy but they do their job. And right now they are two for the price of one! So put em in every room of your house!

8. Metal & Glass Cylinder Lanterns - Pier 1 $1.98-$2.98

Originally 8 and 12 bucks, these simple and stylish lanterns could add romance to any setting at a quarter of the cost. Hang from a tree, a shepherd's hook, gazebo, line a path, place on a table, or use as favors at your next shower or birthday party. Perfect for weddings and more!

9. Spode "Baking Days" Dinnerware Collection - Macy's $7.99-$50.40

Since I spilled the beans about my OCDD - you know I am trying to come up with a good excuse to go to Macys. This collection is ADORABLE. Comes in four different colors - red, baby blue, black and lime. I especially adore the individual remekins - perfect in red for Christmas, 4th of July, and Valentines day.

10. Defiant Satin Nickel Deadbolt/Entry Combo Lockset - Home Depot $20

Home Depot has some GRREEEEAAT prices on all things home improvement. Everything you would need to renovate a basement, put up a fence, and change even the most minor of home elements. And remember if you find it for a lower price, Home Depot will match it and beat it by 10% (check their website for more details).

11. Billy Bookcase in Black-Brown - IKEA $60

Everyone loves a little more storage and these bookcases should do just the trick. And marked down from $80 makes this a little more affordable. Only during this weekend will you get these fantastic IKEA prices...so rush...run...push the little old lady outta the way...do whatcha gotta do...just go!

And if you lovely nine find any other appealing pricing events - please let me know ASAP! This girl gotta run - but good luck - and if it is you that I accidentally ram at IKEA, well, all's fair in love and shopping!

Will someone please make this cake and send me a photo?!?! I think it would be perfect for a big game or even a fantasy football party.

2. Martha Stewart Collection Leaf Salt Cellar set of 4 - Macy's $6
If you haven't used salt cellars before - it is never too late to start! I remember loving the dinners that we each had our own little dish of salt (my mom even had tiny little spoons) and we got to add our own bit of flavor to our turkey, chicken, or veggies. It is a great way to add a little charm to dinner parties and holiday supper.

3. Office Basics Letter Tray - See Jane Work $15.50
These fabulous letter trays can make your office tidy, efficient and cute to boot! They are stackable so buy several for multiple levels. See Jane Work also carries matching magazine files and other great products (that are on sale too!).

5. Pure Organic Towels - Bed, Bath & Beyond $4.79-8.99
These towels are like what you admire in other people's homes but never think to buy. Made from 100% cotton, they are super soft. AND...they have even earned the IMO certification (which means that the farmer had to pay to get an "organic" inspection and stamp of approval)...yes they are earth friendly :)

6. Simplicity Ellis 4-in-1 crib in cherry - Target $199
This is the transformer type bed - it grows with your child till they are sleeping sound in their own twin. And you will save money in the long run cause you won't have to buy a new bed when they have outgrown their old one. Plus points - the classic color and shape so you know this thing will never go out of style!

7. Jappling leather Club Chair - IKEA $199
Ok ok ok - you caught me! The picture is not actually the chair - I couldn't copy the sucker. So what's a girl to do? The chair above is the Cary Comfort club chair at Targ-hey...but it runs a cool $399 which is substaintially more than the Ikea version. So in essence, you could buy two of the Japplings for one Cary. Sounds like a deal to me!

***oh and buy the way - this is a limited supply sale - so get a movin - the boyfriend and I bought two for ourselves yesterday and so I can attest - they look much better in person!!! go to page 372 in the Ikea 2009 catalogue to view :)

8. Mattress Pads - Sears $5.97-220.49
It's Sears Two Day sale and they have tons of mattress pads that are on sale. They have waterproof, they have feather beds, they have heated mattress pads, they have memory foam - whatever you can dream of, they probably have. So if you are in need of a mattress pad for your bed, now is the time to pick one up at Sears cause the prices are only good through tomorrow.

Oh - and if you end up buying a Sales & Specials item - please let me know what you purchased and how it turns out - I wanna share in your excitement - cause let's face it, shopping can get my heart pumping like none other :)

Sales & Specials 09.05.08

Wahoo! Sales & Specials time! And it's Friday! Double Wahoo!

Here we go folks - the best of the best - the gravy in your mashed potatoes - the cheapo of the thrifty finds that still look good. Oh and that is really important to keep in mind - I sift through a lot and I mean, A LOT of crap to find home decor items that are actually decent for you and your home. And the following list has several items that I would looove to add to my own abode.

Capiz Circles Pendant Lamp in mocha - West Elm $59.99

Pause salt & pepper shaker set - Crate & Barrel $10.95

George Foreman Indoor/Outdoor electric grill - Walmart $54.96

Camille Lounger - Pottery Barn $299.99

Aria Braid Rug Runner - JCPenney $24.99

Delaney Bookcase in white - Target $69

Egg Plate - Crate & Barrel $17.95

Stricks Sconce - ZGallerie $14.89

Heritage Collection 3-in-1 Convertible Crib in Natural - Kmart $99.99

That sleek s&p set would make me proud to shake it like a salt shaker! That's what I gotta say!

And the Foreman grill is the most economical choice now that it's football season cause it doesn't run on the four dollar a gallon gas that we love.

FYI - the Delaney collection is all on sale at Target right now and it would be so darling for a little girls sanctuary.

And I couldn't resist posting the egg plate - I am always on deviled egg duty come holiday season so I thought that you also would like to be prepared :)

Hope you found something you can love on this list - but if not that's ok - tell me where you love to shop and I can keep my eyes peeled for some great deals.

Sales & Specials 08.29.08

Labor day is upon us! But do not fret my pet (my Urkel moment)! On Labor day, the only laboring most of us do requires some caffiene, a credit card and an extra large buggy! So in order for you to get the most of your shopping experience - I have yet again compiled a list to make you go "WOW!"

So get rested tonight cause Labor Day sales don't last forever. If only! Just the thought of these great prices disappearing after Monday makes me uncomfortable. Do you think labor breathing would help?

Oha Runners - CB2 $9.95

Hudson Ladder Bookcase - Target $79.00

Lack sidetables - IKEA $6.99

Sealy Precision Firm Support Gusseted Pillow $9.99 BOGO

Navy Stripe Beach Towel - Pottery Barn $9.99

Rocker Frame (un-upholstered) - Walmart $155.65

Sales & Specials 08.22.08

El Cheapo here - back and rearing to go! I'm here to make sure you have some more fantastic finds that are easy on the pocketbook. Do people even call them pocketbooks anymore? or is that a serious faux pas? I bet it's like calling the car an 'automobile'..."Honey - Let's go to the automobile wash & get a good swab!" Well that just sounded British...go ahead try it with an English accent - it's jolly fun :)

Back to the point - which is that here at Bower Power we are celebrating #2 of this weeks reasonably priced internet finds - it's
SALES & SPECIALS FRIDAY!!!
And without further ado - here is the leading light in our very British Sales & Specials - the moodboard of bargains that takes the biscuit:

Microfiber Storage Ottoman in Tan - Target $24.99
10" Bamboo Dinner Plate - Hamptons Greens Bamboo 8 for $8.80
Piped Coverlet in Green Apple in Queen - Pottery Barn $89.99
Jungle Appetizer Plate - CB2 $.95
Hayworth Decanter - Restoration Hardware $23.49
Faux leather Club Chair with matching ottoman - Big Lots $129.99 AHHH!
Xing Carved Stool - Pier 1 Imports $49.98
Trio Table Lamp - Walmart $20
8x10 Otis Rug - Crate & Barrel $199

I actually went to Target to check out the ottoman and it is what it appears. The tan color is much more appealing than the brown so keep that in mind if you are headed to Target.com. Also, at Target they have another storage ottoman on sale - featured in their Weekly deals. I couldn't find it at the store but it looks decent too. And it is under $20!

Moving on...

The bamboo plates are fabulous! I saw in BHG where they used them as chargers - el cheapo chargers - and they are consumer friendly for all you greenies out there!

And when it comes to that decanter - Let's just face the facts - Restoration Hardware is like totally super expensive. So to pay 24 bones for a glass water holder is pretty darn good. Plus you could add this to the guest room when friends come to visit and not only would they think - "Wow! My friend has got FANTASTIC taste but she also must love me cause I am getting totally pampered with such a gorgeous decanter!" Seriously - she will say it...just...like...that.

And FINALLY...

The club chair + ottoman + that price = Leg cramps as you knock over the little old ladies at Big Lots.

Have a grand time? Find you a steal or two? I sure hope so. And if you decide to incorporate any of SALES & SPECIALS items into your own abode - send me the pics - or throw me a comment so that I can jump up and down with you in thrifty celebration!

Sales & Specials 08.19.08

Due to a brief stint in California, I was unable to do last Friday's Sales & Specials. But no worries! I am back safe and sound and ready and willing to feature TWO Sales & Specials this week. I know what you are thinking - Katie, are there really that many great deals out there to put together TWO moodboards of fabulous finds?! Why yes my two lovelies, there are! So fasten your seltbelt and put your tray tables in the upright position - Here is #1 :)

And for those of you paying attention - that fab yellow chair that is like a ray of sunshine in our doom of gloom - yea - that one. It's no longer available. BUT this one is! And I think that with a quick coat of spray paint your new wicker will be totally tricked out. And for less than the cost of the Pottery Barn version.
This is the time for your input - stocking up on hand soap for usable and greatsmelling gifts? Want to show how to turn that etsy art into nursery decor? This is your chance - I would love to see how you incorporate any of the cheapo finds (past or present) into your own life!

Newport Beach

Last night I got back from Newport Beach - spent four days there wooing a client. So in my attempt today to get back on blogging track, I promptly googled "newport" (cause I'm not that creative) & "sale" (cause I love a good deal) - result:

Yes this is a clothing-dominated internet store. But in Bower Power style I was able to find a HOME item worth mentioning. Check out the solid douponi duvet :

in pewter with silver bead trim

and in taupe with gold bead trim.

ok so big fat deal, right? No seriously...this is one big fat deal!

Here are the prices:

Twin duvet (was $89) now $17.99

Full duvet (was $99) now $21.99

Sales & Specials 08.01.08

Here at Bower Power, sales and specials are very important to the overall economy of our household. I personally love them because of the following reasons:
  1. I feel overwhelmingly guilty when paying full price
  2. A sale means that my husband and I can buy food that week
  3. A sale also means that we don't have to sleep on the floor, sit on the floor, or eat off the floor (no offense to my floor)

Because a friend reprimanded me last night for not sharing the wealth of knowledge about such a useful subject - aka a sale - I have decided to introduce a new feature here at Bower Power - SALES & SPECIALS. So each and every Friday be sure to check back in to see what other treasures I have discovered at low low prices.

Elana Headboard - World Market $99.50
Ikal Placemats - CB2 $1.95 each
Tonally Mod Dinnerware - Pier 1 Imports $2.48-$2.98
Nautical Rope Accent Table - Pottery Barn $99
Textured Stainless Bath Accessories - Crate & Barrel $4.95-$9.95
Solid Jersey Sheet Set in Brown - Target $13.99 (ANY SIZE!!!)

and my bonus sale item this week is featured at West Elm - it is their wood beaded window panels. Only $35 for a set of two panels that are 108" long! Perfect for layering and infusing a feeling of vacationing in Bali. (I totally want to go there one day!) These sheer linen window coverings can add privacy while allowing light to enter a dim space.

So you interested? Go check em out. In fact, check out all the sale items and if you discover one of your own - let me know for next Friday!
